Philosophy
Teachers at Olam Tikvah adhere to a learning through play philosophy where children are encouraged to try a variety of free-play activities at their own pace. Free play allows the children a chance to work with materials and toys put out by the teacher. The child is given time and encouragement to explore new things and play cooperatively with peers. A unique feature of this approach is the rotating classroom where your child has the opportunity to participate in activities and socialize with children and teachers from other classes. Structured learning experiences are also offered throughout the morning. Circle time, music, sensory experiences, stories, snack time, and field trips all provide the child with opportunities to learn new things and sharpen developing skills. The curriculum at OT is presented to the children through ongoing topics -- e.g. Jewish holidays, positive self concepts and self identity, family relationships, seasons, nutrition, colors, numbers, etc. The activities surrounding the topics chosen are age appropriate, are presented in an appealing way, and strive to spark the child's imagination and creativity (see Appendix A).
Staff
The staff of teachers and assistants is carefully selected for warmth, understanding, and the ability to work for the best interests of children and parents. The ratio of children to teachers is maintained at the highest standards. Teachers create a positive classroom climate by setting limits quietly and fairly respecting the individual needs and differences of every child (see Appendix B). The primary objective is the happy and healthy development of each child. The staff of teachers and assistants is headed by a paid Teacher/Director under the guidance of the parent Board of Directors.
